Bouygues Construction

For the renovation of the former headquarters of the Comptoir National d'Escompte - Îlot Bergère - Bouygues Bâtiment entrusted Bail Art Projects with the mission of dressing up this prestigious building site with a work of art. Hugo Caddous painted "Le Passage", a pastoral and bucolic work, in reference to the name of the building site. It is inspired by the codes of Classicism, the cultural, artistic and aesthetic movement of the 19th century, when the building was constructed. This timeless landscape is conceived as a window, an opening, a link to the past. It also symbolizes the transition of this listed site, which will soon become a 26,500 m² office building. The theme of nature in the heart of Paris also underlines Bouygues Construction's commitment to responsible renovation, in order to minimize its impact on the environment. A nature enthusiast, artist Hugo Caddous imagined himself working with animals as a child. In 1998, he took a drawing course at the Jussieu engineering school: it was a revelation. He then decided to study engraving at the École Estienne, then at the Beaux-Arts de Paris. For the past eight years, he has been developing a more personal, painterly style, exploring color and matter through often imaginary landscapes. Drawing on his experience with major houses, he is now developing painted frescoes, wall decors, wallpapers and commissioned paintings. Project background: Bouygues Bâtiment Île-de-France was selected by LaSalle Investment Management to renovate the former headquarters of the Comptoir National d'Escompte de Paris, located in the 9ᵉ arrondissement. This 19thᵉ century building, listed as a Monument Historique, will be restored to meet carbon neutrality targets, with HQE, BREEAM level Excellent and BBCA Rénovation certifications. The work, due to start in March 2024, will involve up to 280 people and will give priority to the reuse of materials. Acoustic measures, such as the installation of special tarpaulins, have been put in place to minimize noise pollution in this dense neighborhood. Delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
