Galleries and collectors, united
Difficulty stimulates creativity. This has been true throughout the period we have just been through, and from which we are gradually emerging. Those involved in the art world have been particularly inspired to bring art to those who could no longer reach it. The proposals vied with each other in imagination, intelligence and generosity. In addition to the virtual tours and conferences offered by galleries, museums and art fairs, original initiatives sprang up all over the world.
Of particular note was the Getty Museum's invitation to reproduce works of art in tableaux vivants, resulting in an outpouring of creativity, beauty and fun. Others have shown that the "every man for himself" mentality has not led to an "every man for himself" mentality. A case in point is Galerie Perrotin, which, under the motto Restons Unis, opened its space to 26 Parisian galleries to showcase their artists. At a time when museums are closed and most artistic events have been cancelled, this is an invitation to re-experience the irreplaceable experience of art in real life, in a diversity of proposals from diverse galleries exhibiting their own selection of artists.
An event of this kind creates a wonderful dynamic of dialogue and collaboration between galleries. It is also a tribute to galleries, privileged places of access to works of art, where the public is welcomed, guided and introduced to art, and where artists can also be met. Last but not least, it is a tribute to collectors who, through their acquisitions, support artists and their creations, as well as galleries, making it possible for their spaces to be open and accessible to as many people as possible, free of charge.
